13 km Mini Birkie presented by Global

A loop course for those who want a taste of the Birkebeiner. Awards given to top Overall Winners (male and female) only; Age Group finish times provided for informational purposes. Skiers in this event vary in age and ability, but they all seek the thrill of crossing the finish line. This event starts and finishes at the Waskehegan Staging Area.

Getting to the Staging Area
The Staging Area is located at the Waskehegan Staging Area 'Stadium' of the Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area (also the finish for all races).  There is no parking here or on Range Road 210.  Free shuttle bus service is provided from Bethel Transit Station in Sherwood Park (shown here on the Venues Map) to the Stadium Area continuously from 8 am to 5:30 pm.

Your Itinerary

11:15 a.m.*  Leave Edmonton to drive to Bethel Transit Station (Broadview Rd., Sherwood Park)
11:35 a.m.   Arrive Bethel Transit Station – follow directions of Parking Marshals
11:45 p.m.   Bus to Start /Finish area
12:15 p.m.   Arrive at Waskehegan Stadium, wax skis and enjoy a coffee/hot chocolate and                                 muffins in the Festival Tent
12:50 p.m.   Drop off tagged clothing bag at Clothing Tent in Stadium (note: bring your own bag)
1:00 p.m.     10 minute walk to Start Line on field
1:10 p.m.     Test wax and warm up
1:15 p.m.     Place yourself based in one of 14 lanes based on your estimated skiing time
(self-seeding – ski with folks of similar ability please!)
1:25 p.m.     Official Program at Start Line
1:30 p.m.     Start of 13 km Mini Birkie

What's the route?
The 13 km event is a Loop course which starts from the field east of the Waskehegan Stadium out to Last Chance (Meadow) Shelter and back. Course is rolling hills and winding trails beside many beaver ponds.

How do I get back to my vehicle after I finish?
A free shuttle bus service runs from the finish line (at the Stadium) back to vehicles at Bethel Transit Station parking lot. Runs continuously all day until 5:30 pm.

Spectators or family wanting to pick up finishers
There is no parking at Waskehegan Staging Area or on Range Road 210. Spectators must park at the Bethel Transit Station in Sherwood Park (shown here on the Venues Map), and take a free shuttle bus to and from the finish line.
