Biking like a Viking | Biosphere Ride

The Canadian Birkie and Beaver Hills Biosphere have teamed up to offer you a new and exhilarating summer experience. Experience the UNESCO-designated Beaver Hill Biosphere and Bike like a Viking in a non-timed 55 km, 100 km or 160 km ride.

Event Info

Biking like a Viking offers three non-timed Biosphere rides: 55 km, 100 km and 160 km. All three rides start and finish at the Strathcona Olympiette Centre in Sherwood Park. During each distance you will get plenty of opportunity to experience the diverse landscape of the Beaver Hills Biosphere and take in your surroundings. At the several rest stops we will provide refreshments and snacks to refuel you for the ride.

Course Maps

All registrants will receive a link to Ride with GPS in the week before the event date. Ride with GPS will allow you to download the map and instructions on your phone. 

The three rides will be set in the diverse landscapes of the Beaver Hills Biosphere a landscape that was shaped 12,000 years ago. Along the way we have set up sufficient rest stops to give those viking legs a break, refresh and take in all those beautiful views. Find out more about Beaver Hills Biosphere.

Biosphere Half Century Ride (55 km)

The non-timed Biking like a Viking Biosphere Half Century Ride leads through the diverse landscapes of the Beaver Hills Biosphere. During this 50 km ride you have plenty opportunity to meet the challenges this 12,000 year old landscape has to offer. Along the way we have set up a rest stops to give those viking legs a break, refresh and take in all those beautiful views. (Not Refundable)

Biosphere Metric Century Ride (100 km)

 

Biking like a Viking Biosphere Century Ride is non-timed is set up in the diverse landscapes of the Beaver Hills Biosphere. This unique 100 km ride set in a landscape that was shaped 12,000 years ago. Along the way we have set up sufficient rest stops to give those viking legs a break, refresh and take in all those beautiful views. (Not Refundable)

Biosphere Century 160 km Ride (160 km)

You like to challenge yourself and  go a bit further? Join us for this unique 160 km Ride through the diverse landscapes of the Beaver Hills Biosphere. (Not Refundable)

Details

Can I participate?

Anyone above 12 years old with a road bike, mountain bike or pedal assist e-bike can participate. If the participant is between 12 years and 18 years old, an adult needs to accompany the participants.

What is included in the registration?

Your Biking Like a Viking registration includes a unique cycling experience with:

  • Race entry for your chosen distance
  • Professional marked road cycle tour
  • A Biking Like a Viking Bib
  • Nutrition and Aid stations strategically located along the routes
  • Finish Line Catering
  • On course ambassadors to provide start line information and ensure safety
  • Routes will be supported by motorcycle and bicycle marshals equipped with tools for light maintenance & repairs, extra water and nutrition, fully equipped bike maintenance vehicles and sag wagons
