Getting to the Long Events (55, 31 km)

The Start Line for the long events is located at Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village (UCHV) and is easily accessible with a 45 minute drive east of Edmonton (car pooling is encouraged).  There is a regularly operating shuttle that takes skiers from the Finish Line (at Waskahegan Staging Area of Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area) back to your car at UCHV, runs between 1-5 pm.Shuttle is available from our Host Hotel (TBA) to the long-event start line by reservation with the office.  Return shuttle to the host hotel is not available since skiers may finish at very different times but skiers and spectators can instead use the regularly operating shuttle between the Finish Line of all events (located at Waskahegan Staging Area of Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area) and Bethel Transit Station in Sherwood Park, runs between 1 – 5:30 p.m., and cab back to Edmonton hotel.

Getting to the Short Event (13 km) and the Finish Line for all events

Both the Start and Finish Line for the 13 km Birkie Tour are located at the Waskahegan Staging Area of Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area.  There is NO PARKING available at this location. Skiers and spectators instead use a regularly operating shuttle between Bethel Transit Station in Sherwood Park and the Finish Line which runs between 1-5:30 p.m.

All Birkie shuttles are included in your entry fee.

The best directions to both the long and short start lines can be found by following the links in Event Details.

Friday test ski

If you want to ski a portion of the course on Friday, you can. We suggest you drive your car or get a car rental to get to the Islet Lake staging area of Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area.

The start at Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village and the start/finish at the Waskahegan staging area of Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area are unavailable on Friday.
