Barnebirkie Family Ski: Cross-Country Ski Event for Kids & Parents. The Canadian Birkebeiner Society is excited to partner with Silver Skate Festival to host the Barnebirkie Family Ski. These winter fun activities are where Birkie dreams begin and are for both children and their grown-ups! Did you know? “Barne” translates to “child” in Norwegian!

Barnebirkie Family Ski: Cross-Country Ski Event for Kids & Parents is excited to partner with Silver Skate Festival in Gold Bar Park to host the family friendly Barnebirkie classic-style cross country ski events. These winter fun activities are where Birkie dreams begin!

We encourage all of our participants to take part in the “Dress like a Viking” Costume Contest….wear your crazy hat, Viking costume, super hero cape, bright wig or any other accessory to help you feel like a warrior champion!

What is included in your registration

  • Classic-technique – 500 m, 2 km, or 4 km – track set ski course with official start
  • Barnebirkie race bib
  • Finish snacks and refreshments
  • Hand-made birch wood medal!

Start & Finish

Gold Bar Park

  • 11:00 am – Check-in, park, pick up bib, unload gear, and get ready to ski
  • 11:50 am – Official Program at Start Line
  • 12 Noon  – Ski! Don’t forget about the Costume Contest
  • 2:00 – Event closes

Registration Deadline

Online registration is open until Sunday, February 15th, 1:00 pm.

On-site registration is available.

 

Registration Package & Bib Pick Up

Registration packages and bibs can be picked up on-site at Gold Bar.

Parking

Parking is available on-site. 

Parents and Spectator etiquette

Adults accompanying Barnebirkie skiers on course must be on skis to retain the integrity of the course.
No pets please.

Clothing and Footwear

  • Dress for the weather and the Viking Contest.

Best Viking Costume Contest

  • Enter for your chance to win awesome prizes! Dress up like a Viking or your favourite superhero, fuzzy animal, anything goes!
  • Email your picture to coordinator@canadianbirkie.com. A boat load of warriors will select the winners and let you know who conquered the contest.
