The Birkie Is Community

The Birkie is about local and global Communities. We need you to be successful. Participate, Volunteer, Donate, Sponsor, be a Partner/Supporter, or just help to tell the Canadian Birkebeiner story.

Birkie Groomer

Donate

The Birkie provides volunteer work crews with the equipment to clip and clear bush year-round. We also provide and maintain the equipment for Alberta Parks to set ski tracks in the winter.

Volunteer

It takes around 500 volunteers to plan, organize and run the Birkie each year. Some people work on committees year-round, while others help out for several hours on Birkie weekend

Sponsor

The corporate community keeps the Birkie affordable through 3 sponsorship tiers:

  1. King Haakon Circle Sponsors
  2. Prince Haakon Circle Sponsors
  3. Inga Fra Varteig Sponsors

Spirit North

The Canadian Birkebeiner Society has chosen to partner with Spirit North to enhance the opportunities for Indigenous children and youth in the celebration of cross-country skiing. Spirit North will provide community members from Indigenous communities across Alberta with the opportunity to participate in their first ever Birkie!  Beckie Scott is Chief Executive Officer of the Program and is no stranger to the Birkie. We are looking forward to their participation.

Any donations help Spirit North continue to connect, empower, and inspire Indigenous children and youth with the transformative power of sport and play. Donate to Spirit North via their website. Alternatively,  you can take part in Spirit North’s Birkebeiner pledge form. Ski your kilometres and raise money for a great cause! For more information on the pledge forms, please contact them.
