Context For All Roles

The Birkie attracts about 1,200 skiers and they are supported by 500+ amazing volunteers. The logistics of finding, training, assigning, coaching, and debriefing these generous individuals requires a small, but mighty, team

The Chief of Volunteers and Assistant work in advance of the Birkie either contacting/communicating with prospective volunteers or managing the related information. These individuals also plan and support the volunteer orientation nights. Birkie morning, Volunteer Registration signs everyone in, answers questions, distributes bibs, gets them to the right locations, and answers questions. Birkie afternoon, the reverse happens.

Safety Considerations: Volunteer Registration primarily works in a warm tent/trailer. Still, dress appropriately and wear foot traction when on the stadium grounds.

Location: Waskahegan staging area with public transit available to this location.

Training: Virtual/in-person briefing in January will be required. An in-person award organization meeting will be held closer to the Birkie. Attendance at the Volunteer Orientation the week of the Birkie is highly recommended. Awards Lead will provide mentorship and guidance.

Volunteers work in many different areas, including serving hot broth!
